FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from people building and running a PiSky station.

Is PiSky free and open source?

Yes. PiSky is released under an open-source license and is free to install, run and modify.

What Raspberry Pi models are supported?

PiSky targets Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 running Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm.

Do I need an internet connection for aircraft tracking?

No. PiSky decodes ADS-B locally from an RTL-SDR or Mode-S Beast receiver — no FlightAware, Flightradar24 or other hosted API is required.

Can I run PiSky without a weather station or ADS-B receiver?

Yes. Camera, weather and aircraft tracking are independent modules — enable any combination that suits your setup.
