Hardware requirements

The Raspberry Pi, power, storage and supported cameras you need before you start the installer.

  • Raspberry Pi 4B with 4 GB RAM or better (Pi 5 also supported).
  • Official-quality 5 V power supply.
  • At least 16 GB storage; high-endurance media or an SSD is recommended.
  • An Allsky-supported camera, when the Camera capability is wanted.
  • Optional weather station supported by WeeWX.
  • Optional RTL-SDR, Mode-S Beast GPS, or compatible 1090 MHz ADS-B receiver.
  • A powered USB hub if the camera and receivers exceed the Pi's reliable USB power budget.

Supported cameras

  • Any ZWO camera sold before February 1, 2025.
  • Raspberry Pi HQ (IMX477), Camera Module 3 (IMX708), or Camera Module 1 (OV5647 — not recommended, 0.9s max exposure).
  • Arducam 16 MP (IMX519), 64 MP (arducam_64mp), 462 (arducam-pivariety), and 64 MP Owlsight (OV64a40).
  • Waveshare imx219-d160 (IMX290) and OneInchEye IMX283.

The ZWO ASI120-series cameras are not recommended due to image quality. The Pi Zero and Zero 2 are not recommended — limited CPU/memory makes keograms, star trails and timelapses difficult or impossible.
